Horner's decision to look outside the team's own driver pool was
what brought Perez to Red Bull Racing Honda in 2021. The veteran
Team Principal was drawn to the driver's talent and tenacity, and
the chemistry between the two was established long ago. They
worked together in GP2 in 2009, with Perez driving for the Arden
International team that Horner had set up alongside his father, Gary.
