Max Verstappen is the 2022 FIA Formula 1R Drivers' World Champion after victory at the FORMULA 1 JAPANESE GRAND PRIX 2022.
In a rain-hit race, Verstappen emerged the victor and took the championship when rival Charles Leclerc was hit by a time penalty.
He wins the season with four races to go - the earliest title win since 2011 and with 12 victories so far he is only one shy off equalling the all-time record of wins in a season. The Dutchman has been dominant throughout the season and saw off challenges by Leclerc and teammate Sergio Perez in spectacular fashion.
